Reading Notes

Here's What We're Reading...

Reading is an important part of what we do in our classroom.  We'd like to share our:

  • October Read Aloud with Review

Poppy is a wonderful young mouse who is full of adventure and fun.  Following Poppy through this book is neat and exciting.  Dodging owls and foxes, meeting grumpy old porcupines, even venturing out on her own to explore New House, a house her family wants to move to,  Poppy is full of happiness and wonder and always wants to help.  Poppy is a great book for all ages.  (Student review)

  • Student Book Reviews this Month

Hatchet is a good book about a boy named Brian, who is flying in a private plane to see his dad in Canada.  But when the pilot has a heart attack and dies, Brian is in trouble.  He flies the plane into an L-shaped lake and gets out as fast as possible.  He is in the woods many miles from civilization.  Luckily, he has the hatchet his Mom gave him.  That hatchet is the key to his survival.  (Student review)

The BFG is a story of an orphan girl who meets a giant.  There are other giants, too, but they eat humans.  The one giant who doesn't eat humans is known as the Big Friendly Giant.  He eats this really, really gross giant, vegetables, and a pop that fizzes the wrong way.  The BFG, or Big Friendly Giant, catches dreams.  He can hear well and write and read.  But that's only because he's the runt of the group.  The other giants are all at least twice the size of him.  None of them can read or write.  The BFG taught himself.  While the other giants go off to eat up human beings for dinner, the BFG is sending dreams into little girls' and little boys' heads.  (Student review)

In the story, Holes, Stanley, the main character, does something so bad that he has to go to Camp Green Lake.  Camp Green Lake once was a real lake, but not any more.  Now it's a camp where bad boys go to become good.  They have to dig holes six feet wide and six feet deep in the middle of a desert.  The warden is the boss, and she is looking for something.  That's why they have to dig.  (Student review)

Teen Reads or The Book Bag - Well, we like to think we fit the "Young Adult" category of readers; so we picked this site to visit.

Kids Reads or The Bookworm - Seriously, some of us prefer this site for kids 6-12.
